Recruiting
How will I benefit?
You will gain from the effort you put in.
Cadets are treated as young adults and as such
are expected to take responsibility for their actions. If a Cadet does not work within the rules of
the Unit and New Zealand Cadet Forces then they may face disciplinary actions, likewise, initiative and
co-operation are equally rewarded. As
in all things in life the more effort you put in the more satisfaction and
recognition you will receive.
Activities you may participate in:
Sailing and Power Boats (Day
Skipper/Boatmaster).
Sea and Bush Survival.
Bushcraft and Abseiling.
Firearms Safety.
Sea and Land Navigation.
Leadership and Team Building.
First Aid.
Engineering
Plus many more activities.
Cadets are eligible to attend NZCF Promotional,
Bushcraft and Sailing Courses held at NZDF Bases throughout New Zealand during
the school holidays free of charge. Occasionally opportunities arise for cadets
to participate in NZDF lead activities, these can range from going to sea on
board RNZN vessels to taking part in Local and Overseas Military parades
recognising the part New Zealand Service Personnel have played in past
conflicts.
TS Gambia parades Thursdays during the school
terms, from 6.30 pm (1830 hours) to 9.15 pm (2115 hours). Cadets must attend 90% of all unit-training
parades to qualify for further promotion. Weekend boating and training
activities are optional; these weekends are either held at the Unit Headquarters
or other locations determined by the Unit Officers. Leave, if you know in
advance that you need time off for family or school activities etc you may
apply for leave.
Upon joining you will be accepted initially as a
Basic Common Trainee (BCT). This is a trial training and introductory period
for you to be assessed for acceptability and also for you to decide if you wish
to carry on and become a member of the Ships Company. This BCT period ends with
a weekend promotional camp at the Cadet Unit and an Introduction to Boating
camp the following term.
Upon payment of the joining fee you will be
issued with the working dress (AWD’s). This on loan to you for as long as you
are a parading member of TS Gambia.
Joining Fee $40.
$20 per term or $70 per year.
Camps and activities are additional, they range
from $25 to $100.
