Cadet Unit Commander

Lieutenant Nicole Steeples NZCF.

 

LT Nicole Steeples NZCF is in overall command of the unit.  She is responsible for all unit personnel and equipment.

 

LT Steeples joined TS Gambia as a cadet in 1989; she worked her way up through the ranks and was commissioned on 14th Nov 1996.

 

On 1st July 2005 was appointed Cadet Unit Commander.

 

On the 7th Feb 2006 was awarded the Cadet Force Medal.

 

Executive Officer & Administration Officer

Sub Lieutenant Penelope Hodder NZCF.

 

SLT Hodder joined TS Gambia in 1999 as a supplementary staff member, after working in the unit for a number of years she was commissioned on 17 July 2002.

 

Gunnery Officer

Lieutenant Commander David Ansty NZCF.

 

LTCDR Ansty joined TS Gambia in 1975 as a cadet after a brief stint with the Royal New Zealand Navy he rejoined the unit in 1979; he worked his way up through the ranks and was commissioned on 1st Sept 1981.

 

On the 3rd Oct 2002 was awarded the Cadet Force Medal.

 

Served as Cadet Unit Commander of Training Ship Gambia from the 28th May 1994 to the 31st March 2005.

 

Boats Officer &

Training Officer

Lieutenant Barry Tibbles NZCF.

 

LT Tibbles joined TS Gambia in 1974; he worked up the ranks to Master Cadet leaving in 1983.  Barry re-joined the unit in 1994; he was commissioned in 1996 but due to work commitments he resigned in 2001 but stayed on as an instructor, recommissioned in 2005.  Is qualified as a Mountain Safety Bush Instructor and has a number of commercial marine qualifications.

 

Stores Officer

Master Cadet Leisha Hodder SCC

 

MCDT Hodder joined TS Gambia in 2001; she has worked her way up through the ranks to her current position and as the most senior cadet in the unit.

 

Cadet Staff

Chief Petty Officer Malcolm Barry SCC

 

CPOCDT Barry joined TS Gambia in 2004; he has worked his way up through the ranks to his current position and is the third most senior cadet in the unit.

 

Supplementary Staff

Mrs Stephanie Bruce an ex-cadet who has come back to help.

 

Mr Martin Carroll joined Chatham Marine Cadets (United Kingdom) in 1985 as a cadet, in 1991 joined the Royal Marine Reserves.  Transferred to New Zealand for work reasons and joined TS Gambia in 2007.  Whilst in Marine Cadets was second in command and qualified in Bushcraft, Mountaineering, Joint Services Rock Leader.

 

Mr Ted Scott CLM is our specialist engineering instructor.   When he's not spending his time at the unit Mr Scott is a maritime engineer for a shipping company, so he has a wealth of experience and talents in engineering and seamanship that he loves to pass on to cadets.

 

Mr Colin Swindail recently volunteered to make sure that we have enough uniform and equipment available to keep the unit running efficiently.
